Its only disadvantage might have been the modest number of levels. Tentacle Wars: The Purple Menace resolves that problem and does a bit more. It has twenty new levels and tough purple colored enemies.

If you haven’t played the first version yet, it is probably wise to start off there to get a quick understanding of the basics. If you have completed that one already, buckle up for some tough strategical thinking. The key to success remains quickness in conquering, by cutting the tentacles at the right time.

Think of Dice Wars as the game of Risk, trimmed down to the bare essentials. This means skipping all the boring stuff and going straight to the action: rolling dice and conquering territories! You will notice that rolling dice and strategy do not exclude each other.

Attacking other territories is done by first clicking on your own (purple) land, and then clicking on the territory you want to attack. Dice will then be thrown, and the player with the highest total wins. Having more dice than your opponent is of course very handy. Dice will be randomly added to your territories after the end of your turn. The more adjacent territories you have, the more dice armies you will receive!

Great wars aren’t fought over women or gold, but over spices, flavors or in this case: tea. You don’t wage war in this game, but make the illicit tea trades with the Chinese as an independent salesman. Can you make enough money in the ten years before the great opium wars?

There’s no such thing as easy money. First you must get silver to trade for the Chinese tea that the citizens of the Great Britain empire long for. But what the Chinese want for their silver, is Indian opium. So first you need to smuggle that from Bengal into the country, this isn’t without risk. But the higher the risk, the bigger the profit! Every couple of months, the British will demand a certain amount of tea. If you can’t deliver, it’s game over. But if you can, you can flourish in this black part of British history!

The game concept of Blosics 2 is very interesting. Unlike lots of games that have free ammunition, the shots you fire here come at a price that is directly distracted from the points total needed to complete a level. The bigger the bang, the more you have to pay.

This ‘investment’ dynamic adds a nice layer of depth to an already fun game. The objective is to shoot as much green shapes out of the screen, and preventing the red ones from escaping. If red shapes do disappear, they too will have a negative influence on the points total of 100 that is needed to advance. Another nice feature are the oftentimes tricky puzzles that need to be solved before you can show your aiming skills. We have no idea what a ‘blosic’ is, but it could very well stand for ‘original game concept’. The plurality in the title is well deserved!

The tagline of Zilch is: “a dice game of skill and chance”. You can probably say the same for the majority of dice games, so this is not the way it distinguishes it from the rest. The true strength of Zilch is that it’s fast, fun, and easy to learn.

It all starts with picking a game against the computer, someone next to you, or someone else online, and then rolling the dice! You’ll immediately be noticed if you scored points, and if you want to bank them or roll again. If you have not scored enough points (less than 300), you’re obliged to roll again. If you do not manage to score enough points, either by a lack of luck or playing too risky, you score zilch! If one of the players reaches 10,000 points, the opponent gets one last chance to catch up and then it’s game over.

City folk has never been very interested in visiting trailer parks. This attitude has changed drastically after zombies have taken over. Unfortunately for them, rednecks have never been too hospitable. The only warm welcome they have in store includes shovel battering, moonshine bombs, and airstrikes by cousin Earl. Yee-haw!

Zombie Trailer Park has a lot to offer. The redneck vs. zombies theme has been brought to life in wonderful detail. The sounds, characters, and surroundings alone are more than enough to enjoy yourself. Underneath this all, the game also offers a very interesting strategic challenge. Surviving the incoming attacks requires clear thinking, and destroying the zombie base in the last level requires an almost scientific approach. If you manage to finish this game, you’ll think twice before calling rednecks stupid!

If you see this game in action, you might get the urge to rush to the store to get a microscope. The battles waged between microorganisms are that spectacular, if we are to believe the drama in Tentacle Wars. It’s probably better however to leave microscopic studies to scientists, and let gaming be your expertise.

Tentacle Wars is the typical strategical game that is not hard to learn but tricky to master, and that’s just how we like them. The aim of the game is to convert all the microbes in the game to your color. You can ‘conquer’ other microbes by attacking them with tentacles. Tentacles emerge out of microbes in your possession by drawing a line from them to another microbe with your mouse. If your microbe is stronger, or if you can attack from more than one point, you’ll slowly but certainly take over the enemy. If you change your plans, just cut the tentacle and it will reunite with the microbe(s) it was attached too. Cutting tentacles on the right end is also a quick way to take over neutral microbes.

Pixel Legions looks like how a play of Sun Tzu’s book The Art of War would be, if the actors were pixels. The game has surprisingly much depth in comparison with its simple controls and graphics. All you have to do is draw lines with your mouse to guide groups of pixels to new positions.

It’s all about choosing the right moment to go into battle. If you can outnumber your opponent, it’s always a good idea to fight. But there is also the flanking strategy, where you attack a group of pixels from two sides. Or distract your opponent when you’re in trouble, by attacking his base, so he can’t spawn new units. This may all sound a bit theoretical, but the strength of this game is that you intuitively will know what moves to make. As if you’re Sun Tzu himself!

At Fungamenow we have a strict policy of not covering games that harm cute and furry animals. If they are just furry however, we don’t mind at all. In fact, after seeing the creatures in Laser Cannon, we couldn’t wait to get the word out to destroy these hideous creatures!

If there ever was a good time for a laser cannons, this is it. It even has unlimited ammo! But shooting it too much will hurt your chances of finishing levels with a star rating, so you might want to think before you shoot. And that’s what this game all about. Most of the aforementioned furry things are not in a direct line of fire. This forces you to either make use of the deflection of walls, or trigger physics based elements. There are also barrels with an atomic symbol on them, and if you’re guessing they explode when you hit them, you’re very right! Happy hunting!

This is not a new Muppet Show skit, and it also doesn’t have worms. It does use golf-mechanics however. Does this make any sense? If you’ve played classic turn based game Worms, and Gravitee, then you’ll probably understand it. If not, don’t worry, it’s not complicated!

Just like the game Gravitee, you find yourself surrounded by planets. The gravity of the planets influences the trajectory of the missiles you shoot at your enemies. And just like Worms, each of the characters takes turns shooting. This is lots of fun when it’s your turn, but not so much when it’s not. All you can do in that situation is brace for impact and hope your opponent will misfire. Unlike lots of games with upgrade possibilities, the upgrades in Gravitee Wars are actually very interesting and leave lots of options to tune them to your strategic likings. So you do have something to do after all, when it’s not your turn!
